Belding Police Duties
Belding Police officers are multifunctional officers who are trained and experienced. Some basic responsibilities include general patrol for the purpose of traffic enforcement, and prevention and detection of crimes or hazardous situations.
Police officers are sworn to enforce city ordinances, state law and federal law. Officers respond to calls for service that include both criminal and non-criminal matters. Department members investigate crimes, accidents, and city ordinance code violations.
Belding Police Officers are responsible for the apprehension of criminals and wanted individuals. Members of the department also routinely respond to non-criminal matters such as child custody, property, and other situations where police are called to keep the peace.
Code enforcement is an important role that the police department performs because it helps maintain a safe and clean environment for residents and visitors. The major areas of code enforcement involve the environment, abandoned motor vehicles, nuisances, noise control, and blight.
The safety and protection of the citizens of Belding is paramount for the department, and we continue to train and prepare for the challenges of the 21st century. Community-oriented police officers help the city to achieve its goals and make Belding proud of its police department.
